Green Belt land in St Albans to be bought by Labour Government

Government Inspector has eyes on green belt in St Albans, Hertfordshire

Hugh swathes of greenbelt on the western side of St Albans will be lost as a result of a government inspector.

In a report issued in the summer, this faceless bureaucrat recommended to Labour ministers that Hemel Hempstead should be extended east into St Albans: this could mean as many as 5,000 new homes in Redbourn Ward - and a huge amount of additional traffic throughout the district from thousands of new residents.

When Liberal Democrat councillors Robert Donald and Chris White pleaded with other councils in the county and the region to back St Albans in fighting these proposals, Conservative and Labour councillors united in REFUSING to support local people.

Colin O'Donovan Lib Dem councillor for Redbourn says: "We must not let an extension to Hemel Hempstead be built in our area."
